Shipping

General Shipping Information

• Always assume listed times are United States Central time (PST -700), unless otherwise specified.
• Our office hours are generally Monday through Friday, 10AM to 6PM. We all have familes and whatnot, so that may vary.
• If you are in a real serious hurry to get your product, please send email to sales@bsdmall.com.
• We ship most often from Mountain View, Ca.USA.
• We are a small shop, just a few of us in the office, but we try to ship orders as quickly as we can. Some items take a little more time to ship, and some days we won't ship anything (getting ready for FreeBSD to ship to subscribers/pre-orders, etc). Please feel free to contact us via phone or email if you have questions or concerns.
• If your order requires any special handling, or you would like to request your order to be processed post-haste, you can put that sort of information into the comments field, which is the box at the bottom of the "billing information" screen on the order form. We will do the best we can to meet any special requirements. Orders recieved before Noon EST generally ship the same day.
• We try to email everyone if their item is out of stock. This is not the case for items that are listed as special order (particularly the Daemon embroidered stuff), out of stock, or pre-order.
• When you make your order, you should receive an email confirmation, with a link to an order status page. If you don't receive this email, and if you didn't see a confirmation page with an order number, your order may not have gone through. Email sales@bsdmall.com.
• When your order is shipped, you should receive an email notification, with a link to an order status page. If the "tracking information" says something like: 23 May 2005, this means that your package was dropped at the Los Altos CA Post Office on or about the 23rd of May 2005. Packages with this sort of information are not trackable. You may also see a notation such as Manufacturer will email key to customer, Manufacturer will dropship, etc. We try to put whatever information that we have into this space. If we have a tracking number, you'll find it there. In that event, clicking on the link will take you to tracking information.

Details regarding shipping examples

• FreeBSD 4.8 (four CD set) ships at just under one pound, and that is the weight and item assumed with these examples.
• Within the United States, the TO zip code I used to figure prices is 02138, in Cambridge MA, and the FROM is Los Altos, CA, 94024.
• Please note that the prices listed are estimates, may not be perfectly accurate, and are included only so that you can get an idea of how they compare to one another. i.e., Your Mileage May Vary blah blah blah.

United States Postal Service Options

• USPS International - Airmail Letter Post, or Airmail Parcel Post, depending on size. This is the cheapest of the international shipping options. It is not insured, it is not trackable, and it isn't very fast. Packages shipped this way will most often take four to seven business days, although the postal service or customs laws in your country may cause additional delay. For a one pound package to Japan at 4-7 and 4-10 days, respectively, this shipping option costs $11.50.
• USPS Canada Air - Airmail Letter Post, or Airmail Parcel Post, depending on size. Canadian addresses only. 4-7 and 4-10 days, respectively. $5.00 to Ontario.
• USPS Canada Priority - Global Priority Mail, Variable weight envelope - Canadian addresses only. Advertised as 4-6 days, however, Global Priority Mail goes in the same pouch as the Global Express Mail, which is advertised at 3-5 business days. $8.50 to Ontario.
• USPS Priority mail - USA only. Priority mail averages 2-3 days delivery, and tends to be cheaper than UPS Ground, particularly Ground Residential. USPS will deliver to a Post Office Box, while UPS will not. This option is not trackable. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $3.95.

UPS - General Information

• UPS will not generally ship to a Post Office box (Mailboxes Etc and similar company boxes may be an exception, ask your provider). Please choose USPS if you need it delivered to a PO box.
• UPS is always trackable. Most times you'll find the tracking number on your order status page.
• UPS Ground will usually get to California (and one would assume any comparable distance) in two or three business days if the item we're shipping to you is in Utah (any of the OSes, most of the books except the Dossier books).

UPS Domestic Choices - Within the United States

• UPS Ground Residential - Similar to Ground Commercial, but just a touch more expensive. Please select this if you're having the package delivered to your home. Apparently it is more expensive because houses are harder to find, and there may not be anyone there during the day, forcing UPS to come back the next day, that sort of thing. This is the default shipping option. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $5.89.
• UPS Ground Commercial - The cheapest trackable domestic shipping option. Shouldn't take more than five days, depending on how close you are to where we ship from, and UPS hub arrangement, etc. Please do not select this option if you are having your order shipped to a residence, as that may cost us a $5 penalty to have it fixed and delivered. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $4.78.
• UPS 3 Day Select - Guaranteed delivery by the end of the third business day after it is shipped. It isn't typically that much cheaper than 2nd day, and for a lot of places it isn't much faster than standard Ground service, so we may take this option off of the mall in the future. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $10.28.
• UPS 2nd Day Air - Guaranteed delivery by the end of the second business day after it is shipped. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $11.18.
• UPS Next Day Air - Guaranteed delivery by the end of the next business day after your order is shipped. If you need your order the day after you are ordering it, we highly reccommend that you call in to place the order. For a one pound package to Cambridge, this shipping option costs $26.30.

UPS International Choices

• Canada Standard - Similar to ground commercial/residential. For a one pound package to Calgary Alberta Canada, this shipping option costs $7.86.
• UPS Worldwide Express - For critical international shipments, UPS Worldwide Express offers guaranteed door-to-door, customs-cleared delivery in one to two days (depending on the destination) to more than 200 countries and territories. For a one pound package to Japan, this shipping option costs $43.57.
